Most of us know that eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day is very important, but did you know that by eating fruits and vegetables of a variety of different colours we can get the very best health benefits?

Each of the different colours of fruits and vegetables contain tremendous health components, important to our good health.

Red Fruits and Vegetables

Contain nutrients which are thought to help reduce the risk of prostate cancer, lower blood pressure, support join tissue in arthritis cases and reduce tumour growth and LDL cholesterol levels. (Low density lipoprotein cholesterol – carries most of the cholesterol that is delivered to cells. Called the ‘bad’ cholesterol because when its level in the bloodstream is high it can clog up your arteries.)

Orange and Yellow Fruits and Vegetables

Contains beta-carotene, flavonoids, potassium, and Vitamin C which are thought to help reduce age-related eye disease, the risk of prostate cancer, lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure, promote collagen formation and healthy joints.

Green Fruits and Vegetables

Contain chlorophyll, fibre, calcium, folate, Vitamin C, and Beta-carotene which may help reduce cancer risks, lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol levels, normalize digestion time, support retinal health and vision, fight harmful free-radicals, and boost our immune system activity.

Blue and Purple Fruits and Vegetables

Contain nutrients which include lutein, Vitamin C, fibre, and flavonoids, which help support retinal health, lower LDL cholesterol, enhance immune system, aid healthy digestion, improve calcium and other mineral absorption, fight inflammation, reduce tumour growth, act as an anti-carcinogen in the digestive tract, and limit the activity of cancer cells.

White Fruits and Vegetables
